Role Overview As a Genetic Counseling Assistant, you will support the Genetic Counselor and broader care team by coordinating patient referrals, scheduling appointments, and managing pre-authorization and consent processes. This vital role ensures seamless communication among patients, clinicians, and counselors while maintaining accurate documentation and tracking of genetic testing. You will play an important part in providing compassionate support to patients and families, handling inquiries, preparing documentation for the electronic medical record (EMR), and ensuring timely follow-up throughout the genetic counseling process. Key Responsibilities Support Genetic Counselors with scheduling, referrals, and documentation. Obtain patient consent, medical records, and testing pre-authorizations. Assist patients with follow-up, inquiries, and escort when needed. Enter and update patient data in the tracker system and EMR. Facilitate communication between counselors, clinicians, and patients. Prepare and scan records into the EMR to maintain complete documentation. Ensure confidentiality and compliance with all health information standards. Maintain a strong understanding of medical terminology relevant to genetics. Qualifications Education Required: High School Diploma or GED Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Science or related field Experience Required: 1 year of related experience (may substitute for a bachelor’s degree) Preferred: 1 year of experience in healthcare or medical-related field Take the Next Step Make a meaningful impact by supporting patients and families through the genetic counseling process.
