Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3‑week in‑person Orientation that gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast U.S. Following Orientation, you'll begin working in the full‑time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project. About the Position Are you ready to dive into the world of electric grid modeling and help keep the power flowing? As an Associate Engineer in Electric Grid Modelling, you'll play a vital role in supporting the operation and maintenance of the power grid. You'll work on electric system modeling, make updates to the grid model, and collaborate with engineers on exciting capital projects. This is your chance to gain a deep understanding of how our power grid operates and contributes to the community. This is a hybrid role based in Northboro, MA. What You’ll Do In this role, you’ll be part of a team that ensures grid stability and keeps the lights on for our customers. Here’s what you’ll be up to: Model Maintenance: Keep the National Grid electric system model updated in ASPEN, ensuring it aligns with our modeling standards and philosophies. Arc Flash Studies: Perform arc flash studies for substations and improve relay settings to reduce arc flash energy, enhancing safety. Technical Support: Conduct personal protective grounding reviews, maintain calculation methods, and respond to technical support requests from engineering and operations teams. Data Analysis: Independently gather and analyze data using ASPEN and other software to support decision‑making processes within the department. Relay Protection Coordination: Perform relay protection coordination studies, design and review AC/DC schematics, and issue relay settings for various components like transmission lines and transformers. Compliance Studies: Assist in executing and analyzing protection and control system compliance studies to ensure we meet regulatory standards. Collaboration with IT: Work with the IT team to develop automated tools for system fault analysis and data collection, making our processes more efficient. Documentation Development: Create transmission line and substation protection design documents that meet National Grid standards. What You’ll Need Bachelor or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution; graduated between May 2025 and June 2026; ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 8, 2026 or July 13, 2026; valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy; work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H‑1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment‑based work authorization).
